BOWLS CLUBS ACROSS BROXTOWE will be opening up their grounds this weekend for the first of a series of open days to encourage new and returning players to get back in to the game, after Nottinghamshire was named as England’s latest Bowls Development Hot Spot area.

Broxtowe Borough Council’s sports development team, Broxtowe Sport, have been working with bowls clubs across the borough to encourage older adults to stay active and enjoy the social aspects of low impact sports like bowls.

The programme of open days include the following, with more to follow over the coming months:

  • Attenborough Bowls Club, The Strand, Attenborough, Nottingham, NG9 6AU on Saturday 26th April at 10.30am until 4.00pm
  • Awsworth Village Bowls Club, The Lane Recreation Ground, Awsworth, NG16 2QQ on Saturday 26th April at 10.00am until 1.00pm and Sunday 27thApril at 2.00pm until 5.00pm
  • Beeston Bowls Club, Central Avenue, Beeston, NG9 2QW on Friday 23rd May at 2.00pm until 5.00pm

The Bowls Development Alliance (BDA) have granted hot spot status to Nottinghamshire over the next two years, which will include an intensive recruitment and investment programme such as Play Bowls Road Shows, Play Bowls Open Day and Play Bowls 4 Fun programmes across the County.

Broxtowe Sport work with a variety of different partners including residents, sports people, coaches, volunteers and clubs to improve the quality and range of sports provision in Broxtowe Borough.
